OpenClaw 2026.4.25: Massive TTS Upgrade & Plugin Registry Optimization

Bundled Azure Speech & ElevenLabs v3, cold plugin registry for 2x faster startup, and deep browser diagnostics.

Release Overview

OpenClaw 2026.4.25 is a technical powerhouse release. It focuses on two major pillars:Human Interaction (via a massive TTS upgrade) and System Performance(via a new cold plugin registry and expanded telemetry). This update makes OpenClaw faster to start, easier to monitor, and more expressive than ever before.

Headline Features

The Great TTS Overhaul

Voice interaction just got a lot more personal. The new TTS system allows for per-agent, per-account, and even per-channel voice overrides. You can now give each of your agents a unique identity using high-quality providers.

New TTS Capabilities

  • New Providers: Azure Speech (bundled), ElevenLabs v3, Xiaomi, Inworld, and Volcengine.
  • Smart Controls: Use /tts chat on|off for session-scoped auto-read.
  • On-Demand: /tts latest reads back the last message with duplicate suppression.
  • Personas: Agents can now have their own specific voices separate from global settings.

Cold Plugin Registry

Startup time is a feature. By moving plugin metadata to a cold persisted registry, OpenClaw no longer needs to scan every directory and manifest file on boot. This results in significantly faster startup times, especially on systems with many installed plugins or slower storage like Raspberry Pi.

OpenTelemetry & Diagnostics

OpenClaw 2026.4.25 brings industry-standard monitoring. OpenTelemetry coverage now spans model calls, token usage, tool loops, and harness runs. This allows operators to trace exactly where time is being spent and identify bottlenecks in complex workflows.

System Hardening & Setup

Crestodian TUI Helper

The first-run experience has been redesigned. Crestodian is a new interactive terminal helper that guides users through setup with progress indicators, context mode selection, and a local planner fallback.

Browser Automation Safety

Browser automation is now safer and more transparent. New iframe-aware role snapshots allow agents to "see" into complex web pages more accurately. The openclaw browser doctor --deepcommand provides live diagnostics for slow host environments.

Additional Improvements

Safe Tab URLs

Agent responses now include safe tab URLs, making it easier for users to see exactly which pages the agent is currently interacting with in its browser workspace.

Windows & Docker Hardening

Install paths and update routines have been hardened for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Docker. This includes better Node service restarts and LaunchAgent token rotation for increased security and reliability.

Upgrade Guide

Immediate Upgrade Recommended If:

  • You use voice features and want higher quality or per-agent voices
  • You have many plugins and want faster startup times
  • You are running OpenClaw on a Raspberry Pi or other resource-constrained host
  • You need better observability via OpenTelemetry

Upgrade Commands

FAQ

What is the new TTS system in OpenClaw 2026.4.25?

The TTS system has been completely upgraded to support per-agent and per-account voice overrides. It adds new providers like Azure Speech, ElevenLabs v3, and local CLI tools. You can now use /tts latest to read back recent messages or set chat-scoped auto-TTS rules.

OpenClaw now uses a cold persisted registry for plugins. This removes the need for broad manifest scans at startup, making boot times significantly faster and plugin discovery more deterministic.

What's new in Browser Automation?

Browser automation is now safer and more reliable on slow hosts. It includes iframe-aware role snapshots, safe tab URLs in responses, and a deep doctor probe to diagnose environment issues.

What is the 'Crestodian' TUI setup?

Crestodian is a new interactive terminal setup helper that guides you through the first-run configuration. It includes startup progress indicators and a context mode selector to help you get running quickly.
